Me and my brother after running 12km in Run Geelong!

Run Geelong

This last weekend was our annual Run Geelong, an event which has been occurring in Geelong for around the last 5 years. There is a 12km and 6km event, my first entry into Run Geelong I ran the 6km and I still remember thinking I would not make it past the 5km mark. Now here I am about to start training for a marathon, it's amazing how things have changed!

Last year my brother joined me for Run Geelong, he'd just started getting into running so he competed in the 6km event, I did the 12km, it was my second time competing in the 12km event. My brother did really well last year and I remember saying to him, "next year you can run with me in the 12km!" And sure enough, this year he did, and he also came in ahead of me by 3 mins! I use the excuse that he is a boy and is way taller than me! I'm really proud of him and how much he has achieved in the last 12 months!

I was really pleased to come in just under the hour mark, at 59:49, around 4 mins faster than last year! I also came 16th in my age group, not bad! Helped that I've turned 40!!!

I'm using Run Geelong as a bit of a lead up to marathon training and will try to keep my base up around the 40km mark between now and the end of the year.

The countdown is on, preparations are in place, 6 months till the marathon! Bring it on!
