The three of us! Running Besties!

Can I win over RB2

So, I have two running besties, RB (who has already signed up for the marathon) and RB2.

We have been running together consistently for almost 2 years. In this time we have helped each other through times of injuries, we've been there for each other on those long runs that seemed to go forever and we've supported each other through many of life's obstacles. It's simply amazing what world problems we solve when running at a conversational pace!

RB2's love of running has wavered over the last 2 years, she was broken after our half marathon in October last year and we thought we had lost her completely. But after a break, she returned to running and next thing I knew, she'd signed up to join me & RB on another half marathon. We were so glad to have her back.

Training for the half marathon sadly saw RB injure her knee. RB2 and I continued to train and we both had a great half marathon in July this year.

So when RB and I decided to sign up for the marathon, of course we asked RB2 to join us? Well, to say she was enthusiastic is probably not quite the right word, but I sensed a slight interest and I have been pursuing her gently trying to get her to commit.

Of course I realise this is a big commitment, so, there is no pressure. My subtle emails including a copy of the marathon training plan has been met with some comments that make me feel that we just may be able to tempt her!

I do believe today she said "it's not as bad as I thought it would be"

So, the question remains, can we win over RB2? I'm not sure, but I am hopeful. I'll let RB know that I am making some ground and I'm sure she will help me get RB2 to the starting line. Maybe if RB2 reads this blog it will get her excited enough to sign on the dotted line! I hope so, it just won't be the same without her!

It's offical - signed up for my first marathon

I found out on Friday that registrations opened today for the Great Ocean Road Marathon 2015! http://www.greatoceanroadmarathon.com.au

I have run four half marathons over the last 2 years and during this time have debated a number of times with my running besties about signing up to complete a full marathon.

The timing has never been right and we have struggled to work out which marathon we wanted to do, or whether we really even wanted to do one at all.

A few factors have come into play, I turn 40 next week, so what better midlife crisis to have than run a marathon and I also ran a really good half marathon this year, I crossed the finish line feeling amazing and thought, hey, surely I could run another 21.1km?

So with all this in mind, it has come to this, with a lot of convincing, I have decided to sign up on the dotted line for the Great Ocean Road Marathon.  I'll be running with one of my Running Besties (RB). We may yet manage to convince another person or two to join us, but right now, it's just us and we have been assigned race number 24 & 25! Registrations are done!

I've decided I'd like to blog about my journey, I hope to keep this updated with training, race plans, nutrition plans etc along the way. No doubt there will be some highs and lows!

But for now, the eye is on the prize, 244 days from now, GOR Marathon, here we come!
